The mission of VBC as an undergraduate school of religion, is to teach the Word of God in truth. VBC is dedicated to upholding a high standard of Christian education, and with the help of God, prepare men and women for the work of the ministry of the Jesus Christ.
The purpose of VBC is to glorify God through the teaching of His Word. VBC will provide a high quality Christian education to each student who attends.
History
In 1995, God placed in the heart and spirit of Rev. Kevin Gordon the desire and passion to organize an institution of higher learning in the Word of God, and to establish a means to equip men and women to dig deeper into the Word. In obedience to God’s will, Rev. Gordon moved forward with the plan that God had laid out for him to follow.
Under the direction of the Holy Spirit and through much prayer, Rev. Gordon sought the assistance of Dr. Anthony Braxton, and Sis. Willi M. Lawson to work with him and to become vital partners in the fulfillment of this vision. Praying and working together, and many meetings, the Lord blessed this ministry to become an incorporated entity in biblical education on April 9, 2001, when we became established as Vallejo Bible College (VBC).
When God is involved, things can move swiftly, effectively and efficiently! On August 18, 2001, VBC once again saw the hands of God move as it was then that VBC received compliance approval as a religious school. We were then established as an established, viable educational institution in the State of California. To further validate our institution as a part of the educational environment, in 2004 we received accreditation from the Accrediting Commission International (ACI), which is one of the largest, non-government accrediting associations in existence. ACI serves over 250 schools in 34 U.S. states and five other countries of the world.
In Fall of 2002, VBC launched its inaugural academic year—our doors were opened! We had an initial study body of 18 students, three teachers and the same three administrative staff members that incorporated. With the blessings of God, the dedication of the first students and the commitment of our instructors, we got off to an exciting start. God sent us the students, and he provided a place to meet for classes. The Lord moved in the heart of Rev. Robert L. McCray, Pastor of Tabernacle of David Missionary Baptist Church, who offered us a place to carry forth God’s will for teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our first classes were held in the Fellowship Hall of Tabernacle. VBC continues to hold classes at Tabernacle, but we have been blessed to occupy two of Tabernacle’s fully-equipped classrooms.
From those what seems to be meager beginnings, God has blessed VBC to have on staff 9 instructors, a total of 150 students and alumni, our administrative staff has grown from three to four with addition of an editor, two promotions and marketing team members and a field representative. Also, we have had 11 students to receive degrees ranging from Diploma of Biblical Studies, to Bachelor of Theology degrees.
As VBC continues to follow the plan of the Lord, we are excited about another opportunity He has given us. In 2009, VBC launched its publication division, VBC Publishing. We will not only continue to equip men and women through the taught Word, but God has opened another window for us to fulfill the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20, and giving others an opportunity to share their knowledge through published books, devotionals and such.
As we move forward, VBC is committed and dedicated to the work and will of God. As the Lord continues to bless us with men and women who have a hunger for the Word of God, we will continue to glorify God through the teaching of His Word. Truly our goal is to prepare men and women for the work of the ministry, and we endeavor to do that by continuing to provide a high qualify Christian education in the Word of God in truth.
Let us remember the words of Psalm 119:18, "Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. “
To God be the Glory!
